Based on a sound approach to operations and with respect for the various regulations, shale gas can be produced in a safe and sustainable way. Exploration is of great importance in assessing the potential of shale gas in the Netherlands. If its potential is confirmed, shall gas production could, in the longer term, make a significant contribution to the natural gas production required as we make the transition to a sustainable energy mix.
